We’ve all seen celebrities spending millions of dollars on their outrageously expensive weddings. Sadly, a lot of these weddings end with a divorce. Besides the huge amount they spent on their wedding, celebrity couples end up splitting their millions and millions of fortune following their divorce; some of them even paying $100 million in settlement.

Here is the list of the most expensive celebrity divorce settlements to date:


15. Kelsey Grammer and Camille Donatacci ($30 million)

 Frasier star, Kelsey Grammer had a messy divorce with his wife of 13 years Camille Donatacci after he was caught having an affair with present wife Kayte Walsh. Their divorce was a lengthy battle in court with Donatacci walking away with $30 million as a divorce settlement.


14. Michael Douglas and Diandra Luker ($45 million)

After their 2-decade marriage, actor and film producer Michael Douglas and wife Diandra Luker called it quits. After five years of battle, the court decided on a hefty $45 million as divorce settlement; one of the biggest divorce payouts to date.

13. Phil Collins and Orianne Cevey ($47 million)

With a three-day wedding that costs £300,000, you would expect a happily ever after between singer-songwriter Phil Collins and wife Orianne Cevey. However, after seven years, the two faced a divorce with Collins paying $47 million as a divorce settlement to his third estranged wife.


12. Paul McCartney and Heather Mills ($48.6 million)

After their dreamy $3.2 million wedding in Ireland, Paul McCartney’s wife of almost six years Heather Mills, was awarded a painful $48.6 million divorce settlement by the court , which makes their divorce one of the most expensive divorces in history.



11. James Cameron and Linda Hamilton ($50 million)

The multi-award winning film director and producer James Cameron faced an expensive divorce settlement with his fourth wife Linda Hamilton after a failed 17-month marriage. It was reported that Hamilton took $50 million as a divorce settlement.


10. Kenny Rogers and Marianne Gordon ($60 million)

Kenny Rogers seems like a “pro” when it comes to divorce after facing five failed marriages in the past. The most expensive divorce settlement that Rogers had was with his fourth wife Marianne Gordon, to whom he paid $60 million as settlement after their 16 years of marriage.


9. Kevin Costner and Cindy Silva ($80 million)

Actor and director Kevin Costner met his wife Cindy Silva at California State University. Three years after graduation, the couple decided to marry in 1978. However, as Costner’s career continued to rise in Hollywood, their marriage also started to fall apart. The two decided to end their marriage in 1994 with Silva being awarded with $80 million as divorce settlement.


8. Harrison Ford and Melissa Mathison ($90 million)

Actor Harrison Ford and screenwriter, Melissa Mathison first met in 1976 on a movie set before deciding to tie the knot. However, after 18 years of marriage, Ford finds himself facing his second divorce with Mathison due to “irreconcilable differences”. Mathison was awarded $90 million after their divorce in 2004.


7. Guy Ritchie and Madonna (estimated $76 to $92 million)

 After seven years of marriage and a high-profile wedding in Scotland, pop icon Madonna decided to file for a divorce with filmmaker husband Guy Ritchie due to “unreasonable behavior” in 2008. With both having millions worth of fortune, each walked out of their marriage with an estimated settlement of around $76 to $92 million.


6. Steven Spielberg and Amy Irving ($100 million)

Even after almost three decades, the divorce settlement between director Steven Spielberg and actress Amy Irving still ranks as one of the most expensive divorces in history. Even though the two had a prenuptial agreement (written only on a napkin) the court found this as null and granted Irving $100 million after the couple decided to part ways in 1989. Most of the fortune that was granted to Irving came from the success of Spielberg’s films E.T. and Jaws.


5. Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren ($100 million)

After a string of public and scandalous cheating allegations (at least a dozen women involved) pointed to the golf superstar Tiger Woods, his wife, Elin Nordegren decided to file for divorce in 2010. Nordegren was awarded $100 million as settlement and a shared custody for their two children.


4. Garth Brooks and Sandy Mahl ($125 million)

Garth Brooks and Sandy Mahl met in a bar during their college years and decided to marry in 1986. However, the college sweethearts decided to call it quits in 2001 and end their 15-year marriage after a couple of cheating allegations were thrown at Brooks. Following this divorce, Mahl walked away with $125 million.

Today, Brooks is happily married to his second wife and fellow country singer Trisha Yearwood.

3. Neil Diamond and Marcia Murphey ($150 million)

Married in 1969, singer and songwriter Neil Diamond and his wife, Marcia Murphey ended their 25-year marriage in the early 90’s with Murphey walking away with half of Diamond’s fortune, which is estimated to be around $150 million.

Michael Jordan may have built a successful basketball career, but the NBA legend found himself failing at his 17-year marriage with wife Juanita Vanoy. Their divorce led to a settlement of $168 million.

After 26 years of marriage, actor and director Mel Gibson and wife Robyn Moore decided to call it quits, with the couple splitting their net worth of $850 million in half, making this celebrity split-up as the most expensive divorce in history.
