Li Ka-shing is considered a business magnate of Hong Kong, having amassed a net worth of around $26.6 billion as of 2015. He was born on July 29, 1928 in the Chaozhou province of China. He was notably a school dropout and is a Buddhist. When he was 15, his father died and he was forced to work in a plastic trading company for 16 hours per day. In 1950, he started his own company, Cheung Kong Industries. By 1972, Li Ka-shing has already established a big plastics manufacturing company and deviated to real estate investment. This investment company got listed in the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in the same year. Li was married to Chong Yuet Ming and has two children, Victor and Richard. Although Li Ka-shing has amassed a huge amount of wealth by working hard, he is known to lead a very simple life.


How did Li Ka-shing make his money?

He was considered the most powerful man of Asia in 2001 by Asiaweek. His biggest achievement lies in the fact that he has 15% of the market capitalization of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange. He is the current chairman of CK Hutchison Holdings, the biggest health and beauty retailer and a leading container operator worldwide. Li acquired Hutchison Whampoa in 1979 and HongKong Electric Holdings Limited in 1985. He is the only non-artist person in Hong Kong that has a wax statue.
